Distracted driving remains one of the most preventable causes of serious injury and death on our roadways. In recognition of National Trauma Awareness Month 2026 and this year’s theme, Stay Focused. Stay Safe.

This webinar will explore current data and trends, including the unique risks associated with large trucks and highway environments. Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies that individuals, families, and communities can use to reduce distraction and strengthen roadway safety. The session will also highlight how advocacy and legislative action, including the Paul Miller Law, can transform tragedy into meaningful systems-level change.

Madison Okumura, Outreach Lead at Zero Fatalities and Safe Routes Utah

Eileen Miller is a passionate advocate for safer roads and the prevention of distracted driving. After the tragic loss of her son, Paul Miller, who was killed by a distracted truck driver, she transformed her grief into action. For over a decade, Eileen has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and to advocate for stronger laws. Her persistence led to the passage of Paul Miller’s Law in Pennsylvania, which prohibits the use of handheld devices while driving.Today, Eileen continues to share her story to educate others, honor her son’s memory, and help prevent other families from experiencing similar loss.

Madison Okumura is a passionate advocate for traffic safety and the safety and success of students throughout the state of Utah. As a Zero Fatalities Outreach Lead, Madison has developed a strong foundation in the importance of teaching, guiding, and empowering others. Although her degree is in Communication Studies and Public Relations, she grew up with a family of educators, which inspired a career dedicated to working with students across the state, providing valuable resources and education on the importance of safety.  Madison has given over a thousand assemblies and presentations throughout the years for Safe Routes, Zero Fatalities, and Truck Smarts programs throughout Utah.
