This webinar introduces Large-Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) and examines their relevance to civilian trauma centers. Participants will review the military framework of LSCO, assess its impact on civilian trauma systems, and identify critical differences in clinical care approaches.

The session provides a focused discussion on how lessons from combat casualty care can inform preparedness, response, and clinical decision-making in civilian settings.

Dr. Valerie Sams is Colonel in the United States Air Force and a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon at the University of Cincinnati and is the Director for the Air Force Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (CSTARS) Cincinnati, home of the military’s advanced course for Critical Care Air Transport. She has faculty appointments with USUHS (Associate Professor), UC Health (Adjunct Associate Professor), US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (Professor). She is returning to San Antonio, Texas this summer to assume the role as the next Chief of the DoW’s Joint Trauma System.
