National Trauma Awareness Month Proclamation

National Trauma Awareness Month is a time to come together to recognize the impact of injury and the importance of prevention. This proclamation serves as a collective commitment to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and building safer communities through focused, intentional action.

Designating May 2026 as National Trauma Awareness Month
- WHEREAS, trauma is a profound, widespread, and costly public health issue that stems from physical injury directly impacting the emotional, psychological, and financial well-being of our families and communities across the nation; and
- WHEREAS, trauma is caused by physical forces, including but not limited to natural/man-made disasters, violence, neglect, or other deeply distressing events, adverse childhood experiences, and it often leads to long-term physical and mental health challenges, including physical disability, depression, anxiety, addiction, and chronic illness; and
- WHEREAS, awareness, prevention, and early intervention are vital to mitigating the impacts of trauma, promoting resilience, fostering healing, and influencing safe behaviors; and
- WHEREAS, addressing trauma requires a united effort among the public, healthcare providers, educators, first responders, social workers, faith-based organizations, and community leaders to ensure access to trauma-informed care, services, and support; and
- WHEREAS, resilience-building strategies, such as strengthening social connections, promoting self-care, and creating supportive environments, can empower individuals and communities to recover and thrive in the face of adversity; and
- WHEREAS, National Trauma Awareness Month provides an opportunity to educate the public, advocate for trauma-informed policies, and celebrate the strength and courage of trauma survivors;
- NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that as members/leaders of hospitals, healthcare organizations, public safety organizations, government entities and community organizations, we do hereby proclaim May 2026 as National Trauma Awareness Month and call upon all citizens, organizations, and government agencies to raise awareness, engage in efforts to prevent trauma, support survivors, and foster communities of resilience and healing.
